Gary Neville: Pep Guardiola a better manager than Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson
Speaking on his podcast (h/t The Express), Gary Neville has made a surprising admission regarding Sir Alex Ferguson and his reign at Manchester United.
Having spent the entirety of his career under the Scot, Neville is well placed as any to assess the impact of Ferguson’s success. It is fair to say that his opinion would not be welcomed by die-hard Red Devil fans.
This is because Neville has gone on to claim that it is in fact Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola who is the greatest manager of all time. This comes after the Catalan led the Citizens to their fourth successive League Cup triumph on Sunday.
It was Guardiola’s 30th major honour since taking over the Barcelona first-team in 2007. This includes successful spells at the Nou Camp, Bayern Munich and now City.
This tally could soon become 31 if City clinch this season’s Premier League title. It is fair to say that it is a matter of when and not if it will come to pass.
“I think Man City may have the greatest manager of all time and we’ll look back in 10, 15, 20 years’ time, just the way he has infiltrated countries, dominated football but also influenced others, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it.”
Winning is a habit!
Neville has gone on to add that Guardiola has had an unprecedented impact on English football. Add to it his success in other leagues, and he is peerless when it comes to success.
“You look at how he’s won in three different countries, he’s now dominating in this country.”
Ferguson too had similar success but not at as many clubs as Guardiola. The legendary Scot, however, has 38 major honours and still has the edge over Guardiola.

It would be petty for one to downplay any of Guardiola’s achievements. He truly is without doubt one of the greatest managers in the game.
He might very well end his career as the greatest manager in the world. But for now, Ferguson reigns over the Catalan and we would have it no other way.
