“The standard is high” – Solskjaer cools down talks of a rift between this star Man United duo

Solskjaer plays down bust-up between Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Fred

Manchester United stars including Harry Maguire and Fred were far from their best in the 0-0 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road yesterday night.

Not only did the performance almost certainly put an end to our title hopes but also displayed a lack of imagination against a resolute Leeds defence. In a match that lacked action in terms of football, other things made up for it.

One such talking point was the heated exchange between Maguire and Fred. The duo was at each other’s necks regarding their position with the skipper calling his teammate as ‘f*****g donkey’.

According to The Daily Mail, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has downplayed the incident and has dismissed the notion that there has been a falling out between the pair.

“We have got a group that demands a lot of each other. The standard is high, both on training and in a game, it is not just about being a nice guy.”

The Norwegian believes that the standards are high for his team and emotions sometimes get the better of his players on the field. One cannot expect them to be nice guys, especially not when things aren’t going our way.

Not good enough!

Solskjaer was disappointed at not getting all three points but appeared satisfied otherwise. He believes his side dominated the game in the second half and looked strong.

“We demand maximum effort. I was really proud of how strong we looked. I never thought they threatened our goal in the second half but we missed a little bit of spark to win the game.”

Speaking to the media after the game, Maguire too did not make a meal of the incident. Hopefully, it has been left behind as we have bigger fish to fry in the upcoming weeks.
