Real Betis not to make a move for Manchester United star Eric Bailly

According to Estadio Deportivo (h/t Sport Witness), Real Betis are unwilling to meet the financial demands needed to sign Manchester United star Eric Bailly.

The 27-year-old was Jose Mourinho’s first signing at United. A capable defender, injuries have often held him back from realising his full potential. In fact, he only recently made his 100th appearance for the club.

Despite improved fitness, the Ivorian international has been left frustrated by the limited opportunities he has received under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. With just one more year left on his United contract, he is seeking a move away in search of regular game time.

Having spent the initial years of his career in Spain, there is some interest from La Liga in the 27-year-old. The likes of Real Betis, Villarreal and Valencia are all keeping tabs on his situation at Old Trafford.

According to the report, Betis are not in a position to fund a move for the United star. Touted at just €13m, Bailly represents excellent value for money.

However, the La Liga side is struggling to cough up the funds required. Not even selling a major star would see them make a move for the 27-year-old.

Moreover, Bailly’s €5m-a-year wages at United is another problem. Betis’s top-earner is Nabil Fekir who earns a relatively modest €3.5m oer year. Given the La Liga side’s self-imposed salary cap, Bailly will need to compromise to make the move happen.

It now remains to be seen if any of the other teams interested will make a move.
