Manchester United ownership once again on the agenda following the European Super League fallout

According to Manchester Evening News, the Manchester United ownership saga is once again in the news.

The Glazers have been called out for their role in the controversial Super League. This has sparked a larger debate regarding their tenure at the club since taking over in 2005.

There were rumours circulating in 2019 that Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman would be interested in taking the reins of the club. One of the wealthiest people in the world, he is one who can fork out the necessary amount needed to purchase us.

There appears to be little truth in Mohammed bin Salman’s interest in United

However, there does not appear to be much interest from their end. The report goes on to say that club officials were amused when the rumours first surfaced and there has not been any change since.

The same can be said of fan ownership being the solution. The Red Devils are the fourth most valuable club in the world and are valued at over £3billion by Forbes. As things stand, fans would struggle to collect the amount needed to make it happen.

While there is loud clamour for a change in ownership, the options before us right now appear unclear.

United fans are risning up against the Glazers

Fans today blockaded the entrances to the club’s Carrington training base demanding for the Glazers to sell the club. While options such as the Bundesliga’s 50+1 rule has been suggested, it is still some way away from being fruitful.

It is clear that a large number of fans have had enough. This has been visible from their action on social media and also outside club facilities in recent days.

The Glazers lost a key ally when Ed Woodward resigned from his post earlier this week. With key matches against Liverpool and Roma to come, the Red Devils have ample opportunities to show their force against the owners.

Whether anything concrete comes out of this remains to be seen.
