Manchester United legend Gary Neville unconvinced by claims that Ed Woodward was against ESL plans
According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United legend Gary Neville is unconvinced that concerns over the European Super League( ESL) are the real reason why Ed Woodward resigned from his post at the club.
The 49-year-old tendered his resignation after the European Super League plans went up in smoke on Tuesday.
A founding member of the competition, United too pulled out of the controversial breakway league hours later.
It was reported by the BBC that Woodward’s decision was influenced by the fact that he could not support the club’s plans to be involved in the ESL.
Given that he resigned his posts at UEFA once the Super League was announced and only left the United top seat once things started falling apart, the BBC’s report appears to be more hogwash than reality.
Neville certainly thinks so as he took to Twitter to mock the news. The United legend, a vocal critic of the ESL have his reply with a single emoticon that showed his mirth at the revelation.
Neville’s reaction is not unprecedented. After all, UEFA chief Aleksander Caferin name-dropped Woodward as one of the club executives who negotiated with the European body in bad faith.
Sharing name space alongside Florentino Perez and Andrea Agnelli does little to earn Woodward any redemption.

An ally of the Glazers, United fans will hope Woodward’s resignation is the catalyst to the owners selling the club in the future. The Americans are not exactly loved at Old Trafford and not many tears might be shed if they call it a day.
