Glazers seeking £4billion to sell Manchester United following ESL backlash

According to Football365 (h/t The Express), the Glazers are seeking around £4billion in order to sell Manchester United following 16 years at the helm.

The Americans have been far from the ideal owners and have been at the receiving end of much criticism from the fans. A crossroads moment appears to have been reached following the club’s role in setting up the controversial European Super League.

A tipping point has been reached and a group of fans turned up at the Carrington training base today, barricading both entrances. It is clear that this is amongst the strongest protests that have taken place against the American ownership.

According to various sources, it would take anything from £3.5bn to £4bn for the Glazers to consider selling the club. Either way, it represents a significant profit on the £790million investment they made back in 2005.

Manchester Evening News revealed earlier today that the chances of Saudi Arabian honcho Mohammed Bin Salman making a move is non-existent. Given the price, fans too will be hard-pressed to cough up the required amount.

The Glazers have already lost one ally in executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward. The 49-year-old has resigned from his post and is the first major casualty of the ESL fallout.

Joel Glazer penned an open letter to fans yesterday, opening up on the ESL fallout and the way forward. It appears to have done little to mend fences.

Given their history at the helm, it will take more than open communication for them to curry favour.

According to BBC journalist Kaveh Solhekol, one of the owners involved in the ESL fiasco is open to ending his association with the club. While there is no indication as to who the owner or the team is, United fans will keep their fingers crossed it is them.
