“Not well prepared” – Arsene Wenger aims a jibe at Ed Woodward after Man United resignation

Arsene Wenger aims jibe at Ed Woodward after Manchester United resignation

Speaking to beIN Sports (h/t Football.london), former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has taken a dig at Ed Woodward following his resignation from Manchester United.

Woodward had been with Manchester United since 2005 and had played a key role in the Glazers’ takeover of the club. He became the club’s chief executive after David Gill stepped down in 2013.

Woodward oversaw a rocky spell at the helm as the club hit new lows under his reign. Constantly criticised for his transfer policies and the managerial appointments, the decision to back the breakaway European Super League was one from which he couldn’t turn back.

The decision was met with severe backlash from supporters, players, current and former both. And as soon as it emerged that the new super competition would end up crashing and burning, Woodward stepped down from his role at Manchester United.

Now, ex-Arsenal boss Wenger has aimed a jibe at Woodward while also taking a dig at the poor planning that had gone into the European Super League.

“Well, I would say he realised the project was not well prepared, and I don’t know what Woodward will do. But, look, if you want to create a Super League with two groups of 10 teams and you come out with only 12, and you know you can lose some, (laughs) your project is not very solid.”
