According to the Mirror, former Manchester United star Jonny Evans is keen to put right the one domestic failure he experienced at Old Trafford.

The Northern Irishman spent 11 successful years at Manchester United winning a number of trophies. This includes the Premier Leagues, two League Cups, a Club World Cup and one Champions League title.

One major accolade missing from his list is the FA Cup. The furthest we made following his first-team debut was the semifinals – once in 2009 and then again in 2011.

“I’ve been fortunate to win League Cup finals but the FA Cup would definitely top that.”

Now at Leicester, Evans has one more shot at winning the prestigious competition. The Foxes take on Southampton later tonight in a bid to win their first major title under Brendan Rodgers.

Victory tonight will set up a blue date with Chelsea at Wembley. It is fair to say that Evans has been looking forward to it for some time now.

“I’ve never reached an FA Cup final and it’s something that has eaten away at me over the years.”

A first of sorts!

While the veteran defender has played at Wembley before, it has not come in the showpiece event of the world’s oldest cup competition.

“I’ve played a few games at Wembley — Community Shield matches, a couple of League Cup finals — but it would definitely be nice to be playing in the FA Cup final.”

Evans to his credit has flourished since leaving Manchester United in 2015. A successful stint at West Bromwich Albion earned him a move to Leicester At the age of 33, he continues to go strong.

“To win the FA Cup is something special.”

Winning the competition wouldn’t just be a first for Evans. Leicester have made it to the finals of the competition four times but are yet to add the trophy to their collection. Maybe this is the year the stars align for both player and club.

More Manchester United News

Interestingly, United last won the FA Cup in 2016 – the very season following Evans’ sale. Perhaps it makes sense that he now stands at the cusp of a final after eliminating United in the quarter-final stage.

Evans is still held in high regard by the likes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Sir Alex Ferguson. The United legends would not begrudge watching an academy graduate go on to prove his detractors wrong.
