Solskjaer expects past defeats to drive Manchester United to Europa League glory
According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects past failures to act as a catalyst to his side’s quest for Europa League glory.
The Red Devils made it to the last four with a 4-0 aggregate win over Spanish side Granada. A depleted United side won the return fixture 2-0 last night thanks to goals from Edinson Cavani and Jesus Vallejo (Own Goal).
It is the second time in two years that we have made it to the semifinals of the competition. Hopefully, we can go one better and end the four-year wait for silverware.
This will be our fifth semifinal appearance in a major competition under Solskjaer. The Norwegian remains hopeful that the current crop can learn from the mistakes of the past and push on to glory.
“The disappointment of the defeats that we’ve had, they give us the motivation to go one step further and hopefully end the season on a high.”
Solskjaer believes his side is motivated to go all the way and will relish the opportunity presented to them. Bringing in a trophy could make a difference when it comes to our fortunes going forward.
No cakewalk!
The United boss is under no illusions that the last-four fixture against AS Roma will be easy. In fact, there are no easy games at this stage of the competition and the Italian will present a formidable challenge.
“You know, when you get to a semi, that’s the nature of the game – you’re playing against good teams.”
The fixture will also see us go up against two former Red Devils stars in Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Chris Smalling. Having already dispatched Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Diogo Dalot en route to the semi-finals, we can repeat the trick once again.
