Former Manchester United star Chris Smalling held at gunpoint during a house robbery

According to The Evening Standard, former Manchester United star Chris Smalling and his family were held at gunpoint during a house robbery.

The English ace joined AS Roma on a permanent basis last summer. The incident occurred on Friday early morning when the player and his family were asleep.

The men who broke in were armed, hooded, and forced the footballer to open a safe. The robbers took Rolex watches, jewellery and other valuables.

According to Italian news agency Ansa (h/t Sky Sports), three men entered the home after removing a grating from the window of the player’s bedroom. The police are now examining video surveillance cameras to shed light on what happened.

While Smalling is yet to comment on it, Marcus Rashford has taken to Twitter to express his support.

It is not the first time that invaders have broken into a Serie A representative’s place in Rome. Roma coach Paulo Fonseca’s house was broken into last November and men got away with watches and other valuables. Thankfully, he and his family were out during the time.

Lazio forward Joaquin Correa’s house in Rome was also burgled a few days earlier.
