Transfer News: Chelsea pursuing Manchester United target Jules Kounde
A report by La Corina de Nervion (h/t Chelsea FC Media Watch) mentions that Chelsea have joined the transfer race for Manchester United target, Jules Kounde.
The French defender has impressed at Sevilla recently. He is a big reason behind his team’s sumptuous defensive record this season in La Liga, having conceded just 21 goals in 29 games.
Kounde has been linked with United for a while now, with reports as far back as December linking him with a switch to Old Trafford. But now, Chelsea have thrown their name into the hat.
Sevilla triumphed in the UEFA Europa League last season, with Kounde playing a big part in that run. The 22-year-old continues to go from strength to strength as he has become an irreplaceable figure in Julen Lopetegui’s team.
Battle for Kounde
United were not the only club linked with a move for Kounde before Chelsea’s interest. Local rivals Manchester City and La Liga giants Barcelona are also monitoring the Frenchman’s situation.
The report further adds that Monchi, the Director of Football at Sevilla, will listen to offers for the former Bordeaux centre-back.
The U-21 French International has 80 senior appearances for Sevilla already and has scored 5 times. He really looks like a mature defender who could slot straight into United’s line-up despite being just 22.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a bunch of options at centre-back. But none out of Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, or Axel Tuanzebe have cemented their starting position alongside Harry Maguire.

And Kounde could do just that. He is young and his best years are yet to come. Any deal for him would be great long-term thinking from United.
