Leicester City leading Manchester United in the race for Boubakary Soumare
According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are lagging behind Leicester City in the race for Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare.
The 22-year-old is a fine young talent who has caught the attention of a number of clubs from across Europe. The likes of Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping tabs on his progress in France.
With his current contract expiring in 2022, Lille could be forced into making a decision on Soumare’s future this summer. As things stand the Foxes look to be leading the race to land him.
Brendan Rodgers’ side are on course to finish in the top four this season. They will be well-placed to attract top talent in the summer if they can provide Champions League football.
The Foxes signed N’Golo Kante for peanuts in 2015. The Frenchman played a key part in the Premier League success before going on to join Chelsea. They are now looking to strike gold again in Soumare.
A product of the PSG youth setup, the 22-year-old has gone on to showcase his potential at the Stade Pierre Mauroy. An ever-present in the Lille midfield, Soumare has made 37 appearances across all competitions and has played a major role in Lille’s title charge.
With the future of Paul Pogba unclear and Nemanja Matic not getting any younger, United will need to reinforce their central midfield.
Soumare still has ways to go but his potential and physical prowess makes him a good fit for the Red Devils squad. Capable of breaking up attacks and retaining possession, he is exactly what we need.

With his best years ahead of him, United could secure a key spot in the team if they are willing to take a chance on the Frenchman. Whether we can pip Leicester remains to be seen.
Whether Leicester’s interest in Soumare also affects the future of Youri Tielemans or Wilfred Ndidi remains to be seen. Both players were linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past.
