Mourinho claims Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson backs him over Solskjaer

According to The Mirror, Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has aimed a dig at his Manchester United counterpart Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over his lack of trophies.

Having replaced Mourinho at Old Trafford, the Norwegian has been at the helm for two years now. United are yet to win silverware under his guidance.

Solskjaer also raised a few eyebrows when he claimed last month that progress was more important than trophies. Unlike him, Mourinho is a serial winner who has won trophies at some of Europe’s top clubs.

Jose Mourinho believes Sir Alex Ferguson has a different view on Solskjaer’s opinion on silverware

In fact, United won their last piece of silverware under him during the famous 2016/17 Europa League campaign. He had earlier led the club to the League Cup, making it a double in his first season in charge at Old Trafford.

Set to face off against each other this week, Mourinho believes Solskjaer should ask Sir Alex Ferguson the importance of winning trophies. He believes the legendary United boss may hold a different view.

“It’s his opinion. I’m pretty sure his big boss Sir Alex had a different opinion about it. But I respect what Solskjaer thinks. I think different.”

Mind games?

Mourinho also added that Solskjaer is welcome to his opinion and is not being disrespectful to anyone. That may be true, but unless he ends the trophy drought soon, the jury will always be out on the Norwegian.

A master of mind games, it is no surprise to see Mourinho bring up the topic before we face them. The very fact that he is using Sir Alex as a barometer for comparison is nothing short of mind games.

“I repeat I believe his big boss, and the biggest in Premier League history, has a different view in relation to that.”
