Transfer News: Villarreal seeking £43m for Manchester United target Pau Torres

According to transfer news from ESPN (h/t The Metro), Manchester United will need to fork out around £43m to land Villarreal defender Pau Torres.

The 24-year-old is one of the players on United’s radar after a number of key performances for the Yellow Submarines. He has so far made 34 appearances for them this season, scoring three goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Having come through the ranks at Villarreal, the Spaniard got his big break with the first-team last season following an impressive loan spell with Malaga. Since then he has gone from strength to strength.

Manchester United are interested in Pau Torres

Torres is keen to take the next step in his career and hopes the £56m release clause does not put off suitors. With Villareal ready to accept a lower fee, it remains to be seen if a move will materialize.

The player’s contract runs until 2024, giving the Spaniards the advantage when it comes to negotiations. United will also need to contend with competition from Real Madrid who are also keen on the player.

A left-footed player, Torres is a rare breed who could give us a different dimension at the back. As such it remains to be seen how serious we are about bringing him to Old Trafford.

United are keen to sign a partner for skipper Harry Maguire. Despite filling in, neither Eric Bailly nor Victor Lindelof have done much to show they are the solution.

The defence has been an achilles heel for us this season. Going into the new campaign without strengthening at the back is something we should avoid at all costs.

Whether Torres will be the man who comes in to make a difference remains to be seen.
