Manchester United earmark Ajax wonderkid dubbed ‘the new Pogba’

According to SoccerNews, Manchester United are keeping tabs on Ajax Amsterdam wonderkid Ryan Gravenberch heading into the summer transfer window.

The 18-year-old is having a breakout season in the Dutch top flight and has managed 3 goals and 5 assists in 25 Eredivisie appearances so far. This has also seen him make his bow for the Dutch national team.(h/t Transfermarkt)

Gravenberch has developed at a rapid rate this season and could be on the verge of ‘something beautiful’ in the summer.

Manchester United are interested in Ryan Gravenberch

Apart from us, the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Barcelona are all interested in the player. Valued at a relatively modest €30m, he represents excellent value for money.

While Ajax may well be unhappy about such a low price, the ensuing pandemic will make it difficult for them to demand top dollar for the youngster.

Brian Tevreden, who was his coach at the youth level at Ajax, praised the midfielder and compared him to United’s £89million man, Paul Pogba. With the Frenchman’s future at the club uncertain, it remains to be seen if Gravenberch will be his replacement.

One factor that may work against us is the treatment of former Ajax star Donny van de Beek. The Dutch international has struggled for opportunities and has largely been a bit-part player at Old Trafford.

Signing a player such as Gravenberch is an alluring prospect. Not only can he become a long-term choice for the club but also has a high talent ceiling that he can aim to achieve.

Another potential pitfall for United is Gravenberch’s agent. The youngster is also represented by Mino Raiola, Pogba’s agent. It is fair to say that he does not have the best relationship with United.
