Bruno Fernandes keen for Manchester United to sign Nuno Mendes

According to Portuguese publication Record (h/t The Metro), Bruno Fernandes is aware of the interest Manchester United have shown in Nuno Mendes.

The 18-year-old wonderkid is one of the best young talents of his generation. One of the best young left-backs in European football, he is already a regular for Sporting.

A full international, Mendes is already Sporting’s first-choice left-back. He has so far made 26 appearances this season, scoring once and assisting two more. (h/t Transfermarkt)

A former Sporting star himself, Fernandes is keen for Mendes to join him at Old Trafford. He is actively pushing United to complete a deal for the young star.

Both Fernandes and Mendes share the same agent and are also teammates at the international level. United have a long history of signing players from Sporting and it remains to be seen if Mendes will soon join that list.

With Luke Shaw rediscovering his best and Alex Telles thriving as well, United are currently well set in the left-back spot. However, according to the report, the club may be willing to offer the latter in part exchange for Mendes.

The youngster also has an impressive £59.3m release clause. However, Sporting may be willing to accept as little as £34m. Given his age and potential, it would be a fair price for a player who can be a star for us in the years to come.
