Transfer News: Manchester United will not be making a move for Sergio Aguero

According to news outlet Mirror, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shut down any chance of the club making a transfer move for Sergio Aguero.

The 32-year-old is set to call time on his time at cross-city rivals Manchester City and will leave the club in the summer. United were touted as a potential destination for the Argentine striker.

A United man through and through, Solskjaer has no interest in seeing Aguero bridge the divide and become a Red Devil. He would potentially become the first senior player in 25 years to move from the Etihad to the Theatre of Dreams.

“Loyalty is one of the values I really, really put highly.”

Solskjaer went on to add that he finds it difficult to believe that a City legend such as Aguero would swap the club just to join their arch-rivals. The Argentine is the Citizens’ all-time top scorer and any move would be a blot on that legacy.

“I wouldn’t expect any player who has played for a club for 10 years to want to go to their local rivals.”

The Norwegian’s comments should finally put an end to any speculation regarding Aguero becoming a Red Devil. Signing a player of his quality in his prime would have been a no-brainer for United. At 32, age is catching up and it is maybe in our best interests that we stay away.

Solskjaer also made use of the opportunity to throw shade at some United players who went on to represent City. The most prominent of them in recent times is none other than Solskjaer’s former teammate Peter Schmeichel.

“We’ve had examples of that – and I didn’t really agree with it.”

The Dane enjoyed a single season with City before hanging up his boots in 2003. Carlos Tevez too swapped Untied for City back in 2009.

“I won’t name names but you all know who I mean. Enough said.”

Solskjaer is right in assessing that loyalty is a major aspect in football. It is, however, an increasingly difficult trait to find in the modern game.

There is no way that any United fan would have been happy had the roles been reversed and we would believe it is the same for the Sky Blues faithful as well.
