Liverpool to challenge Manchester United for Ousmane Dembele
According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Express), Liverpool are also in the race for Manchester United target Ousmane Dembele.
The 23-year-old joined Barcelona in 2017 for big money but has not shown a consistent run of performances. Both injuries and inconsistency have seen him struggle to produce his best on a regular basis.
With his contract expiring in 2022, Barcelona have a choice to make this coming summer. This couold work out well for United who have follwoed the player for a while.
According to the report, a number of teams are also keeping tabs on the player. Apart from Liverpool, it also includes Italian giants Juventus and French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool have also been linked for the player for a while now and could be in line to have a pivotal summer like us. The Merseysiders’ famed front three has struggled this season and it remains to be seen if Jurgen Klopp and co. will make a serious move to land the player.
One of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane could make way for the 23-year-old Frenchman. This could give them a leg up when it comes to transfer funds in the summer.
Starting off with an advantage!
As things stand, however, United hold a lead on their competitors and are in touch with the player’s representatives. Whether we will still hold the initiative when push comes to shove remains to be seen.
United tried to sign him on loan with a view to a permanent move last summer. However, new manager Ronald Koeman’s desire to keep the winger proved decisive.
Half a year on, Koeman still has a high opinion of the player but the risk of losing him on a free next year could force Barcelona’s hand.

Dembele has produced a return of nine goals and four assists in 35 appearances across all competitions this season. (h/t Transfermarkt)
United should do all they can in their power to land Dembele. Not only will he enhance our attack but will also dent a chance at Liverpool’s efforts to get back into title contention. Two birds with one stone.
