Bad news for Manchester United as Barcelona move fast to land Erling Haaland

According to reliable transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Barcelona are in talks to sign Manchester United target Erling Haaland.

The 20-year-old is one of the finest young players in world football and is seen as the messiah to our striking woes. However, a number of big clubs have also made their interest known in the Norwegian wonderkid.

Haaland is seen as a key recruit by returning Barcelona President Joan Laporta. The player’s agent Mino Raiola and father Alf-Inge Haaland are in Barcelona and are in talks with the Catalan giants.

Despite Barcelona looking to pull a fast one, Romano has gone on to add that a deal is yet to be agreed on. As things stand, there are a number of clubs keen on the player and he is yet to commit his future anywhere.

What is alarming here is the inertia United are showing in landing what is a generational talent. The Red Devils lack a dependable striker and there are few in world football who can offer what Haaland does.

The fact that Barcelona appear to be trying to steal a march drives home the need for urgency in eking out a deal. Talks between the player’s entourage and Laporta have reportedly gotten off to a good start.

Clear intentions!

Raiola’s trip to Barcelona could be pivotal given that he was in talks with Borussia Dortmund chiefs the past few days. The superagent has a good working relationship with Laporta. The same however cannot be said of his relationship with United.

18 years ago, Laporta acted quickly to trump United to the signing of Ronaldinho. He appears to aim for a repeat with Haaland.

The Red Devils missed out on signing Haaland twice in the last few years. If there is to be a third time, we can blame no one but ourselves.

Tottenham Hotspur are also unwilling to sell Harry Kane to a domestic rival. United may well miss out on the top-class strikers available in this summer’s market.
