Transfer News: Manchester United in touch with representatives of Pau Torres
According to Spanish news outlet AS (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United are in regular contact with agents of Pau Torres over a potential summer transfer.
A product of the Villarreal youth academy, the Spaniard got his big break with the first-team last season after an impressive loan spell with Malaga. And there has been no looking back for him.
Torres, over the past season and a half, has quickly established himself as one of the top defenders in Spain, meaning clubs across Europe are vying for signing in the summer.
Manchester United, though, are believed to be front-runners for the transfer of Torres, which has left Real Madrid, one of his other suitors, furious.
Now, it is said that the Red Devils have been in regular contact with the representatives of Torres over the possibility of a transfer, in recent months. However, the same is said of our arch-rivals Liverpool as well.
Manchester United, despite recent improvements, need reinforcements at the back given the inconsistent nature of the backline led by Harry Maguire.
Throw in the uncertainty surrounding the situation of Eric Bailly, whose contract runs out in a year, bringing in a new top-quality centre-back could go a long way in helping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer & co. take the next step in their rebuild at Old Trafford.

Torres, to that end, can be a viable signing for Manchester United. However, the Spanish international is said to have a release clause of €65m, which could become a problem.
But with Real Madrid still hopeful of negotiating a transfer with Villarreal, it remains to be seen if the Red Devils are able to land Torres in the summer.
