Erling Haaland to Manchester United complicates further after recent comments from Alfe-Inge Haaland

Speaking to Sport1 (h/t football.london), Erling Haaland’s father, Alfe-Inge Haaland, made a comment regarding his son choosing a club just because of a manager, as links to Manchester United continue.

The Borussia Dortmund striker has heavily been linked with a move to Chelsea and United, with his £68million release clause becoming active next summer. And he has no shortage of potential suitors, with Real Madrid also in the running for him.

United have looked favourites out of all English clubs to sign the former RB Salzburg man. But that notion has taken a potential blow, with his father’s latest comments regarding a transfer move for him.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was, of course, in charge of Molde when Haaland was there as well. But while the Norwegian link has made United favourites in the eyes of many, Haaland’s father thinks otherwise.

“It’s dangerous to sign for a coach because he can then be sacked.”

A potential blow

This suggests that the player could consider a move based on the club he is joining, rather than the manager he would be playing under. Arguably, in that regard, United seem better placed than quite a few clubs.

Despite not winning the league since 2013, United have won the UEFA Europa League and have been regulars in the UEFA Champions League. With Haaland, the club can take a step further and win the title as well.

But other clubs who are interested in Haaland, such as Madrid, have had a better decade when it comes to trophies, and are perhaps better placed than United right now when it comes to challenging for the big trophies.

The Dortmund hitman is quite easily the most exciting attacking prospect in Europe right now. And it is no surprise clubs are flocking around the Norwegian international over a potential move.

It is, hence, clear that United should pounce at any opportunity to sign him because he is one player who can make the club genuine contenders for trophies again.
