Manchester United fans react as Harry Maguire endures a night to forget at the King Power Stadium
Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire is the one central defender at the club who can be assured of his spot in the starting XI.
However, if yesterday night’s performance is anything to go by, if he is our best, United are in big trouble. The 27-year-old returned to his former stomping grounds to face off against an injury-hit Leicester City side in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
It was a night to forget for the English ace as he initially dug Fred into trouble and failed to organize his backline against Youri Tielemans and Kelechi Iheanacho in the second half. Jamie Vardy too bested his former teammate but thankfully could not capitalize.
Speaking ahead of the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted his annoyance at not still having Jonny Evans at his disposal. Having seen him play against us yesterday, we can understand the Norwegian’s sentiment.
Maguire on his day is a good defender but serious questions have to be asked about his ability to not step up as a player but also the organizer of our backline.
Fans had some strong opinions about his performance and made themselves heard on Twitter. We take a look at a few of them below.

You lot hype Maguire and he reverts back to his usual self, as if I’ve not seen this before

Don’t ever tell me we don’t need a CB again. Lindelof and Maguire are getting murdered here for pace

Maguire gonna keep having problems until he returns Iheanacho’s slippers.

Harry Maguire was sold by Leicester for £80m but I’m not sure he’d get in their team now #LEIMUN #FACup

In fairness Maguire plays him into trouble. Fred can only see his own goal, Maguire can see full pitch. For a team with such a good defensive record @ManUtd concede some bad goals.

For the first goal Maguire’s pass selection was a bigger issue than Fred’s poor quality. Holistic issues playing out of defence even more worrying. Central man-orientation is effective against us; defence and midfield was very compact initially – made it too easy for Leicester.
