Player News: Manchester United yet to offer a new contract to Paul Pogba
According to the reliable news outlet, The Telegraph (Subscription Required) Manchester United are yet to hold contract talks with ace midfielder Paul Pogba as we head into the summer transfer window.
This revelation contradicts Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s admission that there have been “discussions and talks” over a new deal for the 28-year-old.
With just over a year left on his current deal, time is running out for the Red Devils to secure their position with respect to the player. A failure to do so could end with him leaving on a free in 2022.
Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola declared in early December that Pogba was unhappy and wanted to quit Old Trafford at the end of the season. While the news did come out of nowhere, the player has, to his credit, stepped up his game on the field.
This improved attitude and application behind the scenes has raised hopes of him penning a new deal at Old Trafford. The club, however, is yet to put an offer for the player on the table.
According to the report, Pogba may have to offer a clear statement of his commitment to the club before the situation sees any progress.
A summer of decisions!
Juventus had hoped to sign Pogba last year but failed to do so thanks to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic. They, however, remain interested and even made more enquiries about his availability in January.
Whether Pogba’s future is resolved before the European Championships commence in June remains to be seen. Letting it fester that long only makes our position more vulnerable.
A strong finish to the season with United and an impressive Euros for France certainly boost United’s chances of getting top dollar, not to mention more clubs could join the fray.

There was a belief in the United hierarchy that the current campaign would be Pogba’s last at the club with summer signing Donny van de Beek set to take over.
The Dutchman has since struggled while Pogba has stamped his authority on the team. His recent form is a testament to what he can do at his best and it remains to be seen if the club is willing to do what it takes to keep the World Cup winner.
