Luke Shaw critical of Manchester United despite big win against AC Milan
Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw was speaking to BT Sport (h/t Daily Mail) after the game, and admitted that his team was ‘awful’ in the first-half against AC Milan.
The Red Devils took on the Serie A giants in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League last-16 encounter at San Siro. And with the first game finishing 1-1, United needed to score at least once.
But nothing came off for us in the first-half as they went into the break at 0-0. It was a performance that Shaw was not proud of as he said United were lucky to not pay for their sloppiness.
.”..we weren’t good at all especially first half we were awful. The first 10-15 minutes, we started well, kept control of the ball but it was like a switch – we turned off, kept giving away balls, bringing pressure on ourselves and we were lucky.”
All that matters is the win
United brought on Paul Pogba for the second half who returned from injury to replace Marcus Rashford on the left wing. The move instantly paid dividends as the French midfielder fired United in front in the 48th minute.
And the English left-back praised the ‘world-class’ 28-year-old’s influence on the team. However, he knows that the club needs to be better than they were against Stefano Pioli’s side on Thursday night.
“2nd-half it always helps to have a world-class player like Paul to make a difference and he did that. But we know we need to be better than tonight.”
United are now through to the quarter-final of the UEFA Europa League with the draw now taking place on Friday, 19th March.
