The 18-year-old’s new terms will see his time at the club run until 2024. United do retain the right to extend his deal by another year.

The youngster has been at the club since the age of seven and is a United man through and through. He rose through the ranks, making his first-team bow last season in the Europa League against LASK.

Mengi trained with the first-team squad at the beginning of the season whilst featuring 10 times for Neil Wood’s Under-23s side.

The 18-year-old joined Derby County on loan in the January transfer window and has already made six appearances for the Rams. He is currently making the most of the opportunity to work under United legend Wayne Rooney.

Mengi is the third United youngster to put secure a new contract in the space of as many days. He follows fellow 18-year-olds Hannibal Mejbri and Anthony Elanga in signing a new deal at Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted earlier this year that Mengi was sent on loan to gain experience. It is fair to say he is making the most of his time at Pride Park.
