Manchester United lead Liverpool in the race for Fiorentina man Nikola Milenkovic

A report by Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail) states that Manchester United are ‘favourites’ to secure a deal for Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic, which means they lead Liverpool in the race.

The Serie A side are not willing to come down from their £30million price tag for the Serbian centre-back. That is a big increase in value considering they bought him from FK Belgrade in 2017 for £5million.

However, it is a fee that Ed Woodward would happily pay. The defender, who stated that former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic was his idol as a kid, looks all set to leave La Viola alongside French winger Franck Ribery.

The duo have not extended the contract and ‘have their bags packed’ in a bid to leave Fiorentina. The 23-year-old’s current deal with the Serie A side expires in 2022.

A great fit for the team

The report goes on to add that the defender’s representatives have been in contact with the Red Devils since last summer. And Old Trafford is touted to be his next destination.

There is also interest in the player from Premier League rivals, Liverpool. But United are said to be leading the race, which comes as good news for the fans who would undoubtedly like such a signing.

Fiorentina are not doing well in Serie A at all. They are in 13th position after 27 matches and are closer to the relegation spots than 8th-placed Sassuolo.

United, on the other hand, look all set to finish in the top-4 this season after a massive win against West Ham on Sunday.
