Jamie Carragher talks up Dean Henderson chances for England
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Daily Mail), Jamie Carragher believes that Dean Henderson can become England’s No.1 at the Euros.
The former Liverpool defender was of the opinion that if Henderson can keep David De Gea out of the starting line-up at Manchester United, he has a good chance to be the first choice for England in this summer’s European Championships.
‘You think if Henderson becomes the United goalkeeper, I always think it is very difficult for an England manager to not pick a player at a top club never mind a goalkeeper or another position.’
Carragher does feel that Nick Pope might be hard done by the fact that he plays for Burnley and even though Pickford can retain the spot for this tournament, Henderson will likely come in if he keeps playing at those levels.
‘But I think going forward next season, if Henderson is the Manchester United goalkeeper, I think it is very difficult not to pick him for England.’
The academy graduate returned to the club this season after two breakthrough seasons at Sheffield United, where he produced some fantastic performances. However, he has found game time hard to come by, playing in the cup games mostly.

Now with De Gea out on paternity leave, Henderson has been given the opportunity in the league. He impressed in the Manchester derby providing a crucial long throw to set off Luke Shaw for the second goal.
Henderson will likely get a few more games before De Gea returns but given the form he is in, the big Spaniard might just find it hard to displace him.
