Solskjaer believes Pep Guardiola tactics would not work at Manchester United
According to the Mirror, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the tactics employed by Pep Guardiola would prove ineffectual at Old Trafford.
He believes Guardiola is merely reinventing the wheels and has put faith in the tactics employed by Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson to return United to the top.
City and United are involved in a title race that is far from tight. While United was on top in January, Guardiola’s side has since not just overtaken us but also pulled away.
“Traditions, built by Sir Matt and Sir Alex, of pace, power and quick attacks.”
With both teams set to take on each other in tonight’s derby, all eyes will be on Manchester where the title race could be potentially decided.
Despite the clear chasm between both teams, Solskjaer refuses to learn from his rival and remains keen to build upon the club’s culture
“Every manager builds a team around a club’s culture – and we have a culture at Man United that we want to stick to.”
The Norwegian believes there are different ways of achieving success and he bases his management style based on his learnings from United and in Norway.
“They have taken little bits from other managers and teams – and I have taken a lot of my football philosophy from the time I was here at Man United and, to be honest, in Norway.”
My way or the highway?
Despite the poor form of late and his inability to win trophies, Solskjaer remains confident in his abilities and feels the club is improving.
“I have always believed in my way of playing football.”
While confidence is a good thing to have, Solskjaer’s preachings are pointless unless he goes on to win trophies. Guardiola started his managerial carer just three years before Solskjaer. They both, however, have a world of difference between them when it comes to success. It would not hurt the Norwegian to take some pointers from his counterpart.

While the likes of Sir Busby and Sir Alex have been successful, football has also evolved since then. Solskjaer’s stubbornness to stick to the ideals of his mentors could prove costly.
As both Guardiola and Klopp have shown in recent years, evolution is necessary for both the manager and the team to progress. Otherwise one could end up as yet another Jose Mourinho.
