Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refuses to give a clear answer as to when David de Gea will return
Manchester United star David de Gea was a surprise exclusion from the team that travelled to London to take on Crystal Palace and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update.
The Spaniard is the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and has often got the nod over the impressive but younger Dean Henderson. Speaking ahead of the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that the player’s absence was due to personal issues.
According to The Mirror, the Norwegian refused to disclose much but hinted that the Spaniard could be ruled out for the near future.
The 30-year-old has been the club’s first-choice goalkeeper for a decade now. While he has had his high and lows, De Gea has often started when fit.
While confusion over his absence reigns, Dean Henderson stepped in yesterday night to put in a solid performance. Arguably our best player on the night, the 23-year-old made a fine save off Patrick van Aanholt to keep the scores level.
There have been calls for the Englishman to take over the reins from De Gea and he now has an opportunity to show just what he can do.
An opportunity to impress
Solskjaer too was full of praise for Henderson and noted the crucial role he played on the night. While coming away with a point is seen as a disappointing result, going away with none would have been disastrous.
“He’s growing in that position. I thank him for one point and not zero.”
Henderson will come face to face against a different animal this weekend in Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side are on a 21-game winning run and are sure to test the United defence.
The 23-year-old has a real chance to showcase his potential.
