Solskjaer refusing to give up on Manchester United outcast Phil Jones
According to Tribal Football, Manchester United star Phil Jones could be offered a new lease of life at Old Trafford.
The 29-year-old was a highly rated talent when he made his way to United in 2011. However, injuries have ruined what could have been a potentially successful spell at United.
Jones is yet to make an appearance for the club this season and is currently recovering from a knee injury. As things stand, he might not make an appearance for the club for the remainder of the campaign.
According to the Daily Mail, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that he is not sure when Jones will return to action, and if it will indeed happen during this season.
“I’m not sure (when he will be back).”
Interestingly, Solskjaer went on to add that the club will do everything they can ensure the 29-year-old is at the very least fit to start next season. Whether this is an indication that his immediate future lies at the club remains to be seen.
“So (we’ll) give him absolutely every chance to get back this season. If not, hopefully for the start of next.”
Add to it the sobering thought that United may not be able to bring in their top targets, Jones could very well be in the fray for the 2021/22 campaign.
Not the answer to our problems!
Jones at best will add to the numbers if not the quality of our defensive options. It has been clear all season that a new centre-back is needed if we are to take the next step in our journey to the top.
The 29-year-old may be the only centre-back at the club with a Premier League medal, however, he is not the answer we seek and making him so will mean that we are overlooking the issue yet again.

Jones has played 224 times for United during his decade long stay at the club. He was a part of the United side that won the 2012-13 Premier League title, the 2016 FA Cup and the 2017 Europa League. Whether more glory will be garnered during his time at United remains to be seen.
