Andy Cole expects rivals to trump Manchester United to Erling Haaland
According to The Mirror, Manchester United legend Andy Cole believes the Red Devils’ rivals could trump United to Erling Haaland.
The Red Devils remain a top side but have seen their stock fall in recent years. With our last trophy coming in 2017, City are admittedly the more successful side from Manchester at this point in time.
Both clubs are interested in Haaland, who is fast emerging as one of the best players in world football. Still just 20, he is already a prolific scorer who has made it a habit of scoring goals for fun.
“Does everyone want to go to United now? I’m not quite sure everyone wants to now.”
Cole believes the best players in the world can only be attracted if they too stand to gain from the transfer.
“To get these guys to come, Haaland for instance, you’ve got to entice them with something.”
While United can offer lucrative deals, so too can other clubs. Unfortunately for us, some of them are better placed at this point on time to offer the Norwegian glory.
“These guys are going to have other options, possibly Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, maybe Barcelona.”
Unlike in his day, Cole realizes that Old Trafford is not the default destination for the world’s aspiring stars. There is only so much clout that a name can hold and United are now finding it to their detriment.
With still much to play for this season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could help swing the tide in United’s favour. Showing that we can win silverware is essential going into the summer window.

With success a major draw for top players, United will need to show they are still relevant at the top level. Solskjaer has brought stability but the search for glory has so far eluded him.
The sooner he can rediscover it, the quicker we can get back to becoming a prime destination again.
