David de Gea believes Manchester United failed to make the final pass in Chelsea stalemate
Speaking to MUTV (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United ace David de Gea has identified where the club fell short in the stalemate against Chelsea on Sunday.
The Red Devils once again failed to find the back of the net against a big-six side and had to settle for a point. Manchester City now hold a 12-point lead over us with 12 games to go.
United had just four shots on target and did not come close to breaking the deadlock. In fact, it can be argued that the unawarded penalty constituted our best shot at scoring on the night.
“We didn’t have many chances, we didn’t create much.”
De Gea believes United did create a number of breaks for themselves but failed to capitalize on them. An inability to find that final pass saw a number of chances go begging.
“The last pass was what we missed today, we created good counter-attacks but the last pass wasn’t the best position.”
While the Spaniard has little complaints defensively, he believes these are the kind of games United must win if they are to sustain a title challenge.
“We want to do more, it’s not enough if we want to win trophies.”
An underwhelming show!
Given the players at both clubs’ disposal, the match was a drab affair and lacked any excitement. The cagey affair needed a spark of inspiration and both teams lacked it on the night.
United have now failed to score against the big six in their last six meetings this season. With the Manchester derby set to be held this weekend, we will have to snap out of the slump and start scoring once again.
Anything less than a win on the night will only strengthen City’s hold on the title.

United have shown much promise this season but as we saw yesterday, there is still some way to go before we can be considered as genuine title challengers. While our deficiencies are no secret, it remains to be seen what we do to address them.
