Manchester United ready a £50m bid for Jadon Sancho
According to Eurosport, Manchester United are set to make a £50m bid for Jadon Sancho in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The English international is one of the best young players in world football and has gone from strength to strength at Borussia Dortmund. The Red Devils were heavily linked with a move for the player last summer, but it came to nought.
Sancho was valued at well over £100m last summer, a figure Dortmund stuck to. A year on, the Red Devils are set to return for a player whose valuation has taken a hit.
While United were willing to pay £80m for Sancho last summer, if all goes well they could sign him for a price that is a little over half of that.
Dortmund are currently in the fifth spot in Bundesliga and face a battle on their hands to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. With the club already hit hard by he COVID-19 pandemic, losing out on the lucrative competition will be a major blow.
The Red Devils are willing to take advantage of the situation and table an initial £50m for the player’s services. While Dortmund may not be happy about the figure, they could have little choice.
Not qualifying for the Champions League could force Dortmund to select between Erling Haaland and Sancho. The former is one of the best players in world football and holds the edge over the Englishman.
While Sancho has continued to score and assist, his numbers have waned in comparison to that put up last season. This has also seen his valuation take a hit.

Securing Sancho for £50m would be an incredible piece of business and will vindicate Ed Woodward not overpaying for him last summer.
However, it is difficult to believe that we will be the lone team in the fray if the player is available for such a knockdown price. Whether we can land him next summer remains to be seen.
