Newcastle manager Steve Bruce tells what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said to him after Manchester United win
Speaking in an interview before the Wolves game (h/t Mirror), Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce gave a stern reply when asked why he was smiling with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after losing to Manchester United.
The Magpies boss was pictured sharing a laugh with the United boss after his club lost 3-1 on the night last week. This would understandably not have gone down well with some of their fans.
After all, that defeat meant that Newcastle had won just 2 out of their last 14 Premier League games. To add to that, the club is just 3 points above the relegation zone in 17th position after 25 games.
And Bruce was asked out the incident in the press conference by a reporter, who implied that his chat with Solskjaer had not been received well by The Toons’ fanbase. Bruce was visibly irate with the question.
“A lot of fans, or is that you? Listen, I’ve known Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for 20 years. If I’m caught smiling with him…”
Much ado about nothing
Solskjaer and Bruce have both, of course, represented United during their playing days. He then revealed what Solskjaer was talking to him about which lead him to break a smile after the full-time whistle.
“He was complimenting us on how well we played. So if that’s a bad thing that I’ve smiled with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer then unfortunately okay.”
After this encounter, United went on to draw 0-0 with Real Sociedad in their UEFA Europa League last-32 second-leg and progress to the next round. They now have a massive clash with Chelsea in the league on Sunday.
