Solskjaer expects Shola Shoretire to succeed at Manchester United

It was a historic night at Old Trafford as 17-year-old Shola Shoretire became the youngest player ever to feature for Manchester United in Europe.

At 17-years and 23 days, he eclipsed Norman Whiteside’s record that had stood since 1982. The youngster shaved off 102 days off the North Irishman’s previous record.

Speaking to BT Sports (h/t Sky Sports) after the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes this is just the start for the talented youngster. He expects Shoretire to scale bigger and better heights in the future.

“He’s a young kid we believe in.”

Despite his success, the youngster is staying grounded and has both his legs firmly on the ground. Solskjaer believes this will only aid him as he looks to make a name for himself at the club.

“He’s got his feet firmly on the ground hopefully we’ll see loads of in the future.”

The Norwegian is in no hurry to push the player into becoming a regular. Still young, he needs to develop and should be given the time to do just that.

“He’s got a great attitude, he’s an athlete, technically very, very good and makes good decisions. We want to gradually feed him into this team.”

Solskjaer admits that playing in front of the fans would have boosted the youngster’s experience. Unfortunately, as things stand, that is difficult at this point in time.

If the Norwegian’s prophecy does come true, we Reds will have numerous opportunities to witness the youngster’s growth in the years to come. For now, watching him on the screen should do.

“I’m sure all the fans will see him later on.”

It is unfortunate that fans could not cheer on Shoretire

Solskjaer is right not to rush the youngster into the first-team fray. United have seen promising youngsters such as Federico Macheda and Adnan Januzaj fall away after initially impressing as youngsters.

Clearly, there is talent in Shoretire but care should be taken to ensure it is nurtured and developed slowly. Patience sometimes is the key.
