Manchester United star Marcus Rashford awarded the gold Blue Peter Badge
According to Daily Mail, Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has been awarded the gold Blue Peter Badge for inspiring a nation with his fight against child hunger.
The 23-year-old has been at the forefront of the campaign that has brought relief to children all across the country during what has been a troubling year. Rashford’s handling of the issue forced prime minister Boris Johnson to reverse the Government’s free school meals policy in England.
Rashford was awarded the coveted badge from the long-running children’s TV programme for being a hero both on and off the pitch.
The show, filmed at MediaCityUK in Salford, received letters from a number of children claiming they have been inspired by him. This extends to both his ability as a footballer and a philanthropist. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
Speaking on a video call, Rashford was happy with the honour and revealed that he is glad to know that his efforts are making a difference.
“I appreciate it greatly – I am happy that I’m able to spread positive messages and show a side of me that people might not know of.”
“I just want to give people the best chance to be the best they can be.”
Rashford’s success is a brilliant example of celebrities being able to make use of their popularity to bring about positive change. Hopefully, more of them will follow in Rashford’s shoes and contribute back to society.
The Blue Peter badge is awarded to viewers in recognition of achievement and to guests appearing on the CBBC show. The gold badge is the highest accolade and is prestigious.
