Leicester City keeping tabs on Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard
Manchester United outcast Jesse Lingard struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford this season.
The 28-year-old had poor luck with both form and injuries, and was given just a handful of games. With his future at United looking bleak, the decision was made to loan him out in January.
That proved to be an inspired call as the Englishman continues to go from strength to strength at West Ham United. Lingard has made four appearances for the Hammers so far, scoring three and assisting one. (h/t Transfermarkt)
His upturn in form has also caught the attention of other teams. According to Eurosport, Leicester City are now keeping tabs on the United star.
Brendan Rodgers’ side looks set to finish in the top four and are currently enjoying an excellent season. A versatile forward, Lingard would fit in well in the Northern Irishman’s fluid attack.
The Foxes are set to monitor Lingard’s progress until the end of the season before making a move for him next summer. It could be just the move the player needs to rekindle his career as a top-level player.
Leicester, however, could face competition from West Ham. Hammers star Declan Rice recently urged the club to sign Lingard for another season. The 28-year-old has so far made a positive impression on David Moyes’ squad.
The player too recently voiced his frustration at being denied opportunities at United. It remains to be seen if a return in the summer will improve his situation.

A regular at United under Louis van Gaal and Mourinho, Lingard’s stock has fallen under Solskjaer. He has played a largely peripheral role since last year’s lockdown and is trailing others in the United pecking order.
Rediscovering his best under Moyes and potentially under Rodgers could get Solskjaer the blame for not getting the best out of the player.
