Edinson Cavani reveals why he joined Manchester United last summer
Speaking to ESPN Brazil (h/t The Mirror), Edinson Cavani has revealed why he joined Manchester United in the summer.
The 34-year-old was signed on deadline day last summer. He was a free agent after his previous contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired earlier that summer.
Cavani has now admitted that his brother, also his agent, considered numerous possibilities before deciding to switch to United.
“There was interest and we decided: ‘No, let’s go to this great club.”
Finally, the Cavani brothers settled on United. It was nothing but revisiting interest that originated five years ago.
“We decided to come to Manchester, it was something we had already been talking about, there was this interest, not today, but from a time close and a little further, something like five years.”
The move has paid off handsomely for both the player and the club. Cavani has scored a number of important goals and has largely been able to fill in for an underperforming Anthony Martial.
He originally signed a one-year deal in October but we have the option to extend his deal by a year. The Uruguayan has so far scored six goals in 17 appearances. (h/t The Daily Mail)
The Uruguayan has been stricken with injuries in recent weeks. Whether this will impact United’s decision to hand him an extension remains to be seen.
