“Better than Foden and Saka” – Some fans happy as 17-year-old finally makes Man United debut

Manchester United fans react as Shola Shoretire makes first-team debut

It has been a memorable week for Manchester United youngster Shola Shoretire.

The 17-year-old was on the bench for our Europa League first-leg clash against Real Sociedad. However, he was not brought on and could only watch fellow teenager Amad Diallo make his first-team bow.

Shoretire’s opportunity would come and he did not have to wait for long. With the team leading 3-1, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought on the youngster for the impressive Marcus Rashford for the final three minutes of the game.

While there was hardly any time for the young striker to make an impact, the experience will have served him well. Moreover, it shows the regard he is held in at United despite his tender years.

Shoretire was promoted to first-team training a few weeks ago. He signed his first professional contract earlier this month after a fine spell in Neil Wood’s Under-23 side. He took to Twitter to call the moment ‘A dream come true’.

It is ironic that Shoretire’s debut came against Newcastle, the very team where he began his youth career. He eventually switched to United after his parents were offered jobs in Manchester. (h/t Manchester Evening News)

The 17-year-old has represented England at the youth levels. He is but starting off his career and for now, the omens look good. Hopefully, he will go on to make a name for himself in Red.
