Manchester United legend Gary Neville takes a pot shot at Liverpool during and after their Merseyside Derby loss
Manchester United legend Gary Neville is not a fan of Liverpool. That is hardly surprising given the rivalry between both clubs and Neville’s close affection towards the Red Devils.
Liverpool suffered their fourth home loss in a row last night against local rivals Everton. It was the Toffees’ first win at Anfield this century, a testament to how far off Jurgen Klopp’s side has fallen from their last season’s heroics.
Not one for missing out on opportunities, Neville took to Twitter to post a video of him toasting to what he calls a ‘demise to the great champions’.
The Reds went in 1-0 down at halftime thanks to a Richarlison goal in the early minutes. Liverpool also lost skipper Jordan Henderson to injury, forcing them to deploy what is an incredible 18th different centre-back pairing of the season.
Neville, for one, was enjoying himself and asked his Sky Sports colleague and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher to get kitted up.
Given that Jurgen Klopp has his first five-choice centre-backs now out, Carragher could have gone straight into the starting XI.
Savage pleasure!
The United legend was hardly done mocking the Reds as he once again took a potshot at them conceding a penalty in the leadup to the second goal.
Referee Chris Kavanagh awarded admittedly a rather dubious penalty and stood by his call despite being asked by VAR to review the decision. While Klopp and his team could feel hard done by the decision, Neville was just enjoying himself.
He felt Kavanaugh going to the monitor to have a rather brief look was just a ploy to give Liverpool false hope. Gylfi Sigurdsson stepped up to score from the spot and put the game to bed.
