Manchester United star Edinson Cavani is not one for doling out ‘advice’

Speaking to ManUtd.com, Manchester United star Edinson Cavani has revealed that he is not one to force his opinions on the young players at the club.

At 34, the Uruguayan is a veteran of the game and has been one of the sport’s eminent strikers over the last 10 years. Now reaching the twilight of his career, his success is something young players should look to emulate.

It appears to be exactly what Mason Greenwood is doing. The 19-year-old is keen to learn from Cavani as he continues to enhance his reputation in the game. (h/t Daily Mail)

Cavani’s contribution this season has extended to both on and off the field. He is United’s third highest scorer and also a repository of experience and wisdom to the youngsters off it.

“As someone who is a bit older, there are things that you notice that maybe they, as younger players don’t quite see yet.”

Rather than have an autocratic go to giving out his opinion, Cavani appears to have undertaken more of a subtle approach. While he is averse to handing out unsolicited advice, he believes in doing what he can to help and support those around him.

“Honestly speaking, I don’t really like to just give out advice. I prefer to support and be there to help.”

Giving and taking!

Cavani is not someone who welcomes being told what to do. It would appear his approach to handing out advice also meets the same barometer.

“I don’t like it when people try to impose things on me or tell me what I have to do.”

He does, however, appear to be ready to guide the youngsters at United’s disposal. Cavani admits he will leave his door open for the ones who come to him seeking out advice.

“Then, if a young player comes up and asks me something, or a youngster sees things during a training session that they’d like to incorporate into their game, I’m always here to help.”

Talent can only thrive if nurtured properly. United have a number of young players aiming to make their mark in the sport.

Hopefully their potential combined wth advice from those who have been there and done that could strike just the right balance. How many make use of this opportunity needs to be seen.
