Donny van de Beek told how to overcome Premier League struggles at Manchester United
Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt had some advice for fellow countryman and Manchester United new boy Donny van de Beek (via Sky Sports h/t Express). Kuyt has asked Van de Beek to be patient at the club and that his chance to shine would come inevitably.
Van de Beek has been on the fringes of Manchester United since his arrival from Ajax at the start of the season. The Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford as one of the rising young players in Eredivisie, playing a substantial role at Ajax in their 2019 Champions League campaign.
Nonetheless, he has found game time hard to come by, with just 2 starts and 11 substitute appearances in the league. He has been afforded more minutes in the cup competitions though. With competition for places high, van de Beek has not been able to oust any of the first choice midfielders.
Bruno Fernandes has cemented his place in attacking midfield while the likes of Paul Pogba, Fred and Scott McTominay have been used in a deeper role. Van de Beek has been tried out in various positions but it has produced little effect.
Kuyt, however, has urged patience from the Netherlands international, insisting that his moment will come.
“I think Donny has been very unfortunate because there are no better players than Fernandes at the moment in the world. And he’s playing in his position, so that makes it very tough for him. I think Donny van de Beek has shown in the Champions League last year how good of a player he is, so his time will come.”
