Sir Lewis Hamilton pays tribute to Manchester United star Marcus Rashford
Both Marcus Rashford and Sir Lewis Hamilton were both in contention for 2020’s prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
While the Formula One legend beat the Manchester United star to the gong, Rashford took home a special award for his commitment to end child hunger in the United Kingdom.
According to Sky Sports, Hamilton has now gone on to describe Rashford as a true inspiration as he continues to change lives for the better.
This effusive praise comes after Rashford was named in TIME magazine’s ‘next 100 most influential people’ list. Hamilton too has made the most recent list thanks to his campaigning for social justice and racial equality.
“In a year that showed us the power of working together toward a common goal, he was a galvanizing force behind uniting people across the U.K. in the effort to ensure that no child goes hungry.”
Rashford has truly acted as a unifying force that has brought together people from different walks of life, including the seemingly unbridgeable chasm of football tribalism.
A number of rival clubs and fans have all praised the United striker for his efforts, after all some things are more important than football.
A role model!
Hamilton praised the positive change brought about by Rashford, who made use of his position in society and the sport to bring about positive change.
“By standing up for the most vulnerable in our society, and using his platform and influence to create positive change, Marcus inspired countless others to join him on this mission and cemented his status as a role model.”
Rashford is aware of the praise Hamilton sent his way. He took to Twitter to thank the British legend for his words.

Both sportsmen have been honoured by the Queen in recent months. Hamilton was knighted in the New Year Honours list, while Rashford received an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours last October.
