“I have grown” – Solskjaer reveals he hasn’t been in contact with Sir Alex Ferguson

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer not in touch with Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson

According to The Express, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that it has been some time since he last contacted Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Norwegian took over from Jose Mourinho in 2018 and has since enjoyed mixed success. Although he has shown promise, Solskjaer has so far been unable to convert it into silverware.

Ferguson too enjoyed a mixed start to life at United before hitting his stride later on. He eventually went on to become one of the best managers in football history.

“I manage the way I think is the right way – I don’t ask anyone how I should manage.”

Solskjaer believes he is coming into his own as Manchester United manager

While Solskjaer admits he has learned a lot from Ferguson, he also believes that he has come into his own as a manager. This has seen him not seek out the legendary Scot for his advice.

‘It’s been a while since we had a conversation and I’ve not asked him how I should play this one or that one out.”

One can understand Solskjaer’s rationale. Any success a manager will enjoy at the club will be compared to what Ferguson achieved. With him now retired, it is imperative that the manager entrusted by the club do things his own way.

“It’s been gradual since I came to Man United, I have grown into becoming this person.”

However, Solskjaer does run the risk of being too small to fill the boots at Old Trafford. The Norwegian has brought about some sense of stability but to say that we are back to our best would be a stretch.

The Norwegian should in fact be getting more out of the players at his disposal than he is right now. Saying the right things is well and good but it will count for little if it doesn’t lead to success on the pitch.

United will need to move past the Sir Alex Ferguson era and chart a new beginning.

In that aspect, Solskjaer is right in being his own man. He does, however, find himself in unchartered waters as a manager by leading United in a title race. Judging by how things have gone so far, the Norwegian can use all the help he can get.
