Solskjaer keen to play Scott McTominay in an attacking role after FA Cup goal

Speaking to MUTV (h/t Manchester United website), Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Scott McTominay after his FA Cup winning goal and talked about playing him further forward.

United were thoroughly in control of the 5th-round FA Cup tie against the Hammers on Tuesday. Despite their dominance, they were forced into extra-time on the night.

Scott McTominay scored a 97th-minute goal to sent United through to the quarter-final. The Scotsman finished a first-time volley inside the box to hand The Red Devils a priceless win.

And after the match, Solskjaer praised McTominay’s finishing instincts inside the box. After all, the defensive midfielder played as a striker early on in his career.

Scott’s a clinical striker of the ball. He used to play as a striker, and he finishes with authority. Like, ‘bang’, finish. No messing about. No safety.”

McTominay to be unleashed

Adding to that, the Norwegian spoke of his desire to deploy the 24-year-old further up the pitch. McTominay already has 7 goals for United this season.

“We’ll have to unleash him and release him forward because he’s a goal threat in the box and he’s got a good strike on him.”

As for McTominay, he continues his rise at the club and has slowly become an indispensable part of Solskjaer’s first-team. He has appeared in 30 matches for the club in all competitions this season.
