West Ham receive major Thomas Soucek boost before FA Cup clash against Manchester United
A report by Manchester Evening News confirms that West Ham midfielder Thomas Soucek would be available for selection ahead of their FA Cup tie against Manchester United.
The two sides meet on Tuesday night with a place in the quarter-final at stake. The Hammers made it to the 5th round after thrashing Doncaster Rovers 4-0.
United’s path was a little tougher, as they edged out Liverpool 3-2 in the 4th round of the competition. Until Monday, West Ham midfielder Thomas Soucek was out of contention for the United clash.
The Czech Republic international was sent off against Fulham at the weekend. After consulting VAR, Mike Dean showed him a red card for his accidental elbow on Aleksandr Mitrovic. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
The London-based club challenged the red card immediately after the game. The initial suspension would have seen him miss 3 domestic games, including the FA Cup tie against United.
Soucek could play against United
However, it has now been announced that the star midfielder would be available for selection for the tie. The 25-year-old has 8 goals in his 23 league appearances for West Ham this season.
He has become one of their most important players since joining from Slavia Prague in the summer. Soucek also expressed his happiness on Twitter at the red card being overturned.
“I am glad my red card against Fulham has been overturned. I’ve checked it, I’ve gone over 200 games without a single red card my entire career. I am looking forward to helping the team in the important games this week! Thanks for your support!”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be going up against David Moyes, the ‘Chosen One’, who was handpicked to replace Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
