Solskjaer praises Dean Henderson as pressure rises on David de Gea Manchester United
Speaking in an interview (h/t Sky Sports), Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Dean Henderson on his attitude and professionalism despite being behind David de Gea in the pecking order.
Henderson has seen a drastic drop in the amount of playing time he is getting since his loan spell at Sheffield United ended in the summer. He has just started twice in the league for the Red Devils this season.
Compared to that, the 23-year-old started 36 games for the Blades last season. He has started in cup games for us though, as he has a total of 10 appearances for United so far.
Nevertheless, he is behind David de Gea in the Manchester United pecking order. The Spaniard has had a few poor games this season, most recently against Everton in the Premier League. (h/t Sky Sports)
The former Atletico Madrid man was suspect for Everton’s first and third goals in the 3-3 draw. The last-minute equaliser from the Toffees saw United’s title challenge derail to a certain extent.
Time up for De Gea?
Since then, there have been calls to replace the Spaniard with the Englishman in goal. Addressing that, Solskjaer responded that Henderson is highly impressive in training sessions and improving rapidly.
“I know he’s not played as many games as he would have last season, but you see every game when he plays and in training his improvement.”
The Norwegian further added that Henderson is impatient and wants to start every game. But he says that it is something he appreciates.
“Of course, he’s not the most patient guy. He wants to play every game because he knows he’ll perform well, so long may it continue because he’s improved since he came here.”
Solskjaer was clever to speak positively about Henderson without attracting any negative attention towards De Gea.
