Gary Neville lauds Phil Foden after Liverpool display and wishes he was a Manchester United player

Speaking on The Gary Neville podcast (h/ Manchester Evening News), United legend Gary Neville heaped praise on City midfielder Phil Foden, but stated his disappointment at him wearing a blue shirt instead of red.

Foden was in sumptuous form as the Cityzens thrashed Liverpool 4-1 at Anfield last weekend. He scored their 4th and final goal to take City 5 points clear at the top of the table.

And Neville was full of praise for the youngster. He made comparisons to Paul Scholes and said that Foden was guaranteed to make it big in the Premier League.

“If he [Foden] doesn’t make it as a football player, we might as well all pack in.”

The former right-back could not stop speaking about Foden’s consistency and how he was performing regularly at the very top level. The 20-year-old has 10 goals and 6 assists for City in 28 senior appearances this season.

Foden at Manchester United?

However, Neville was just disappointed by one thing; that Foden played for the noisy neighbours instead of Manchester United. The Stockport-born midfielder has spent his entire career at City.

“There’s just something about the fact that he’s a local lad. Even though he’s a City player and obviously I’d prefer him not to be wearing a blue shirt – I’d prefer him to be wearing a red shirt!”

Neville’s praise is spot on but it comes at a time when Foden is helping City steer clear to the Premier League title. United would know that they cannot afford to be lax going into the second half of the season.
