Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals that Manchester United could be cautious in the summer transfer window
Speaking in an interview (h/t Manchester Evening News), manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that Manchester United will not be looking to make ‘wholesale changes’ to the squad in the summer transfer window.
United spent £76.6million on four players last summer and signed Edinson Cavani on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. The club retain their interest in 20-year-old English winger Jadon Sancho. On top of that, there is also interest in Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.
United would be looking to strengthen in defence in the summer. Plus, there is always that possibility of Paul Pogba leaving, so a new midfielder could also be on the cards.
However, the club lost £118.1million in revenues last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. And Solskjaer says that it might affect United’s business in the summer.
“I still think we’re doing the same planning, preparation. But, of course, the pandemic has changed the market and it’s changed the world and it might affect what we can do.”
Covid-19 can impact summer plans
This means that United are working towards signing a few targets in the summer. However, the Norwegian does not think the club needs a lot of changes.
“We have done some very good business in the last few windows I feel and it’s not like wholesale changes we need to make.”
United have brought in players like Alex Telles, Edinson Cavani, Amad Diallo, and Donny van de Beek, while Dean Henderson has returned from his Sheffield United loan spell.
And Solskjaer thinks that this has helped other players in the squad to improve, as the competition for a starting spot has intensified at Old Trafford. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
