Club Brugge boss interested in signing Manchester United starlet Tahith Chong on a permanent deal

According to The Mirror, Philippe Clement, the manager of Belgian giants Club Brugge, has hinted at wanting to secure Manchester United loanee Tahith Chong in a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old Dutchman joined Werder Bremen on a loan last summer. He lasted just half a season after which he shifted to Brugge until the end of the current campaign.

Chong made a big impression on his debut in the Belgian Cup, grabbing both a goal and an assist in a 6-1 win against Olsa Brakel.

Clement was mighty impressed with the player and believes he has had a good upbringing in the arts of the game.

“You can see that he has had a good education.”

Clement also dropped a major hint that he is keen on securing a permanent move for the young winger.

“Maybe he doesn’t want to leave later, maybe he wants to stay here.”

Chong signed a contract with United just last year. With it set to run until 2022, the club has time to track his progress. The youngster has already made his first-team bow for the club, making 16 appearances assisting two goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Chong’s contract at United runs until 2022

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had earlier admitted that he sees a future for the player at United. Having brought in Facundo Pellestri and Amad Diallo, it remains to be seen if that is still the case.

Chong also gave a good account of his versatility last season. The youngster played his first game at left-back against LASK in the Europa League.

The youngster impressed during his 22 minutes on the pitch. He showed flashes of brilliance and even bombed forward at times to good effect.

There is clearly an abundance of the talent in the young Dutchman. Whether it is good enough to make a mark at United remains to be seen.
